Barberry flowers are peeping out today, looking like tiny bunches of orangey-yellow daffodils dangling in delicate bunches from their spiky-leaved shrubs. They can have quite a citrusy flavour as well as looking gorgeous on dishes. But remember, picking flowers means no berries, so never pick them all, for the sake of wildlife and even some fruit for yourself later on…! There’s various species of Berberis, but I particularly like B. darwinii as I think it tastes the best, both blooms and berries…
